Dear people with knowledge, could we have more detailed answers about how the importer works *exactly*? Like how many times a job tries before it gives up (5?), if a job goes to the bottom of the queue every time it fails and other things I'm not thinking of? These details won't necessarily make it into support answers but I feel it would help me to have this background knowledge.

Oh yes, please. Let's have a crash course. Transparency in Support is just as important as transparency in Business.

Yeah, it's 5 attempts, every time it fails, the delay between attempts goes up.

fail 1: 10 seconds
fail 2: 30 seconds
fail 3: 60 seconds
fail 4: 300 seconds
fail 5: 600 seconds

If a job perm fails, the rest will show as aborted.
*Maybe* trying to start a new import will abort the current one ( but this can not be relied on )

There is no display of ones actual position in the queue -- just the queue length.

Hm. Do other jobs run in between the attempts? That might help explain why the queue is draining so slowly ...

Yes they do! But retried imports are still counted in the queue, so until they've failed five times...
