Policy Question: typos in usernames?

Should users be told to either rename or create a new account with the right name, or are "courtesy renames" still something DW does on a case-by-case basis? If so, which support category does this fit in?

If it's clearly a typo, I send it to accounts so D can make the call.

It's sort of a case-by-case thing. If it's a paid account and obviously a typo, I'll rename. If it's a free account and obviously a typo, I'll probably rename, but might suggest just creating a new one -- and give an invite code for that purpose -- if the account is totally empty, hasn't been customized, yadda. If it's a case of "I made this account named foo and now I want my username to be bar", where foo and bar aren't typos of each other, I'll probably suggest a rename or a new account, but might make an exception here or there.

The one you sent me is a clear typo, so I'll probably do the rename. And they do go to Accounts! (Which is the category for all "D needs to see this", not just payment-related questions.)

Those are things where the support leads are looking for an answer from somebody staff-ish, but the request itself doesn't need to be answered by staff!
